Alton B. Chace, 38, Tiverton

Alton Buchanan Chace, age 38, of Tiverton, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016, unexpectedly at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River. He was the former husband of Florencia (Valdez) Shoquist of San Antonio, Tex.

He was born in Keflavik, Iceland, the son of Marjorie G. (Findlay) Chace of Tiverton, and Alton J. Chace of Norfolk, Va.

A graduate of Tiverton High School, class of 1995, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from Park University and was fluent in Spanish. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving as a computer systems programmer, obtaining the rank of Senior Airman.

He worked as a software engineer for NASA, General Dynamics, DNP, and Lockheed Martin and as a video game programmer for Acclaim Entertainment, which was a childhood dream of his. An active member of the New Life Christian Center in Texas, he enjoyed being a youth minister. He was an avid Miami Dolphins, San Antonio Spurs, New York Yankees, and Star Wars fan. He enjoyed traveling around the world, reading the Bible (favorite verse Psalm 23), eating pizza, playing football and softball, playing Xbox, and working on projects around the house.

In addition to his parents and his former wife, he is survived by one daughter, Kandra Phenn of Woonsocket; a brother, Gordon S. Chace and his wife Karina of Purcellville, Va.; a sister, Katherine M. Ormond and her husband John of North Providence; many aunts and uncles, including John E. Chace and his wife Rebecca of Swansea, nephews Jack and Tommy, stepmoms Terri and Vera, and many cousins.
