The Barrington High School girls' basketball team lost its first league game of the season, falling 62-59 in overtime against North Kingstown on Tuesday night.

Barrington held a 23-21 lead at halftime, but fell behind in the second half. The Eagles powered back to tie the game late — Olivia Middleton hit a shot with three seconds remaining to knot the game at 53-53.

The Skippers took a four-point lead early in overtime and held on for the the three-point victory. Glory Ellison finished with 21 points to lead Barrington in scoring, while Middleton had 11 and Grace Coutu finished with 9. 

Barrington's record fell to 13-1 in the league, while North Kingstown improved to 12-2.

Last week Barrington picked up a pair of wins — 55-39 over St. Raphaels and 64-52 over Moses Brown.

Against the Saints, Barrington was led by Andrea Kubas-Meyer's 20 points and Glory Ellison's 14. The Eagles opened a commanding 34-19 lead in the first half and cruised to the 16-point victory. Grace Coutu finished with nine and Olivia Middleton added six. 

Barrington rolled to a 40-25 first half lead against the Quakers, paced by strong performances across the roster. Kubas-Meyer drained five three-pointers and finished with 23 points while Coutu had 13 points and 13 rebounds. Middleton finished with 13 points, 8 steals and 6 assists. Alex Marinelli finished with 8 points and Ellison pitched in with 7 points.

Boys' hockey

The Barrington High School boys' hockey team knocked off Toll Gate, 4-2, on Saturday, a day after losing by the same score to Ponaganset.

In Saturday's game, TJ Hall scored first, assisted by Brett Turgeon. Toll Gate scored, then Barrington's Josh Roy scored assisted by Nick Bernardo. In the third period Jonny Fay scored, assisted by Dominic Robidoux. Toll Gate scored one more goal, but TJ Hall scored an empty netter at the end of the game assisted by Kyle Shuman. Barrington's Josh Cabral made 15 saves.

Barrington lost 4-2 against Ponaganset High School. TJ Hall scored a power play goal assisted by Michael Grieve and Kyle Shuman. Hall scored another power play goal assisted by Grieve. Ponaganset's last goal was an empty netter. Goalie Josh Cabral made 11 saves.

Boys' basketball

Barrington moved its record to 4-9 after defeating Rogers High School on Thursday, Feb. 2.

Mike Coogan led Barrington with 24 points and Ben Silvia chipped in with 21. The Eagles took a 35-28 lead into halftime and finished strong in the second half. William Rywolt contributed 14 points and Brendan Conaty finished with five. 

Girls' hockey

The East Bay co-op team moved its record to 8-4 in the division after defeating Smithfield/Coventry 10-1, tying Bay View/Burrillville/Ponaganset 1-1, and losing to South County 4-1. 

In its tie, Barrington's Madelyn Cox scored the lone goal off assists from Ella Hanley and Grace Flaherty. The goal came on a power play. Ellee Kopecky made 49 saves for the Eagles. The Bay View/Burrillville/Ponaganset team entered the game with an undefeated record.
