Barrington High School's Helen Prates and Derek Carlson were recognized with 2015 Hobey Baker Character Awards recently.

Helen is a four-year player for the BHS girls' ice hockey team and was a starter in net for the Eagles this year.

"Helen is a very good goaltender, but more importantly, she represents exactly what Hobey Baker stands for – Character, Commitment, Sportsmanship, Positive Attitude and Community Spirit," wrote her coaches.

Derek is a four-year member of the Barrington High School boys' hockey team and helped lead the Eagles to a first-round playoff series win over Prout.

The award recognizes and rewards student-athletes for displaying exemplary character and sportsmanship in their schools and communities. The High School Character Award is an extension of the prestigious Hobey Baker Memorial Award given annually to the nation’s top collegiate ice hockey player.
