Barrington school evacuated after gas leak detected

Posted

For the second time this winter, a Barrington public school was evacuated after a natural gas leak was detected outside the building.

Early on Tuesday morning, March 24, officials smelled the odor of natural gas outside Barrington Middle School. Students and faculty followed evacuation procedures and vacated the building while members of the Barrington Fire Department and workers from National Grid addressed the leak.

"As of 7:45 a.m. students and staff were authorized by the Barrington Fire Department and National Grid to reenter the building," wrote Barrington Middle School Principal Andrew Anderson in an email to parents.

Earlier this winter, students and faculty were evacuated from Sowams School after someone detected a natural gas leak outside the building. People were allowed back inside the school less than an hour later.
