Two former Barrington High School track and field teammates reached the finals of the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland recently.

Adam Kelly and Bobby Colantonio finished in the top-12 of the 6K (13.2-pound) hammer throw event at the international competition. Kelly, who will be a sophomore at Princeton University in the fall, finished eighth with a top throw of 240 feet. Colantonio, who graduated from Barrington High School in June and will attend the University of Alabama this fall, finished 12th with a top throw of 227 feet, 1 inch.

Kelly and Colantonio competed as members of Team USA. They earned spots on the team by placing first or second in the hammer throw at this year's USATF Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which were held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Colantonio won the competition with a top throw of 243 feet, 2 inches while Kelly was second at 239 feet, 6 inches.

In Poland, the two competed in the qualifying round — the top 12 athletes were selected to compete in the finals. Colantonio was 10th in the qualifying round while Kelly was 11th.

In the finals, Kelly uncorked a personal best throw of 240 feet feet, while Colantonio had a top throw of 227 feet, 1 inch.
