Erik Bense Jr., 70, Bristol

Erik Bense Jr, 70, of Adelaide Avenue, passed away on Dec. 3 at Rhode Island Hospital.  
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Erik and Mary (Grimo) Bense. He was the cousin of Antonetta DiSanto, Joseph Iantosco, Jacquelyn Duckworth, Karen Ciolli, Linda Maynard, Michael Grimo and the late Ann Healy; uncle and godfather of William Duckworth; and godfather of Kimberly Kirby. He will be missed by his dear and true friends.
Erik was a graduate of Bristol High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in oceanography from the University of Rhode Island. He was the owner and operator of Viking Seafood.
His funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, 9 a.m., from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St., with a Funeral Service, 10 a.m. at First Congregational Church, 300 High St. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Bristol.
Calling hours are Friday, 4-7 p.m.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
