The Barrington police and fire departments responded to a single car accident near the intersection of Middle Highway and Federal Road on Thursday, Nov. 3.

Read about the suspect arson case.

At about noon, a motorist called the police department and reported seeing a white truck or SUV driving erratically on Federal Road. It was reported that the vehicle had struck a curb, may have had a flat tire, and was "all over the road."

Just a few moments later, someone called the station to report an accident in the area of Middle Highway and Federal Road. The white SUV, spotted a few minutes earlier, had driven off the road and struck a tree.

It was not clear why the driver — a Riverside resident — had crashed his vehicle. Emergency personnel transported the man to a hospital.

A tow truck pulled the damaged vehicle out of the wooded area just east of Middle Highway.
