We have a love-hate relationship with our seasons here in New England, and as hard as it is to say goodbye to long, warm days, autumn arrives with a blaze of color and bounty of comfort foods that make it hard to resist. Before it gets too cold, make a point to get out and enjoy a local farmers market and some great local produce at these markets in the East Bay and beyond.


Haines State Park Farmers Market

Sample a few creative cookie flavors from the local cookie and biscotti shop, Dizzie Lizzie’s Cookies, including sea salt and lime cookies, and pumpkin treats for fall.
Where: Haines Park Road, Barrington 
When: Wednesdays 2 to 6 p.m. until Oct. 28


Mount Hope Farmers Market

Aquidneck Honey, locally-sourced mushrooms and seafood, and artisan soap are just a few of the great finds here; and leave a few minuted to visit the farm's sheep, goats and chickens.
Where: 250 Metacom Ave., Bristol 
When: Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. year-round

Aquidneck Growers Saturday Market

Held at Newport Vineyards, this market is the place to go for fresh seafood, baked goods and grass-fed meat. Enjoy live music and perhaps even a wine tasting at the vineyard. 
Where: 909 East Main Road, Middletown 
When: Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until October 31 

Aquidneck Growers Wednesday Market

Featuring all local products and lots of delicious prepared food.
Where: Memorial Boulevard and Chapel St., Newport 
When: Wednesday 2 to 6 p.m. until October 28



Downtown Providence Farmers Market

Stop by Ellie’s Bakery and treat yourself to a pastry while you shop.

Where: Burnside Park, 2 Kennedy Plaza
When: Tuesday 3 to 6 p.m. until October 27

Hope Street Farmers Market

Ride your bike to the market and leave it with the Recycle-a-Bike valet to get tuned while you shop. 
Where: Lippitt Park, 1059 Hope St., Providence

When: Wednesday 3 to 6 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until October 31



Johnston Farmers Market

Stop by White Oak Farm’s booth for a variety of apples including fuji, honeycrisp and macoun. 
Where: 1583 Hartford Ave., Johnston
When: Monday 2 to 6 p.m. until October 26

Pawtucket Wintertime Farmers Market

There's not much you can't find at this enormous indoor market.
Where: 1005 Main Street, Pawtucket 
When: Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., November 8 until early May

Pawtucket/Slater Park Farmer’s Market

The Backyard Food Company and Terry’s Tasty Treasures are the place to stop for jams, jellies, apple butter, relishes and more. 
Where: Slater Park by the tennis courts 
When: Sunday noon to 3 p.m. until October 25

West Warwick Farmer’s Market

Lots of great local produce at this West Bay market.
Where: Thundermist Health Center, 186 Providence Street 
When: Thursday 3 to 6 p.m. until October 29

Woonsocket Farmer’s Market

Plenty of fall staples to be found from the family farms that frequent this market.
