Irene Carvalho, 91, Westport

Irene (Perreira) Carvalho, 91, of Westport, died Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence.  She was the wife of the late Antone Carvalho.

Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Virginia (Souza) Perreira.  Mrs. Carvalho was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport and was a former member of the Holy Ghost Club of Westport.

Survivors include two sons, Antone Carvalho and his wife Catherine of Westport and Robert Carvalho and his wife Mary Louise of Westport; a daughter, JoAnne Pinheiro and her husband Joseph of Pawtucket; 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, Philip Hulitar Inpatient Care Center, 1085 N. Main St., Providence, RI 02904.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
