John M. Balzano, 86, Bristol

John M. Balzano, 86, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 with his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara (Mello) by his side.

Born in Bristol, a son of the late Thomas and Jennie (Malafronte) Balzano, he was a life-long Bristol resident.

A 1948 graduate of Colt Memorial High School, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the owner of Balzano Auto Body and Bristol Bus Company until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, boating, NASCAR, puzzles, watching sports and especially having his family around and spending time with them.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Thomas “Butch” (Polly) Balzano of Rehoboth, Mass., and John “Buster” (Jane) Balzano of Bristol; daughter Jennie (Michael) DaSilva of Bristol; eight grandchildren, T.J., Cassie, Nick, Stephanie, Jay, Taylor, Bethanie and Mitch; four great-grandchildren; and brothers Frank and Carmine Balzano. He has now joined his son, Frank “Buzzy” Balzano in eternal life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 27, 2016 at 11 AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his honor to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904. For condolences, www.wilbur-romano.com
