To the editor:
Thank you to everyone in the community who expressed concern and sorrow regarding the historic sign on the East Bay Bike Path on which someone burned a swastika.
Members of Temple Habonim hung a peace quilt right away, and other concerned citizens placed hearts and peace signs around the posts of the removed sign and around the peace quilt. It took less than 48 hours for the Barrington Preservation Society, the Town of Barrington, the Barrington DPW, and Temple Habonim to work seamlessly together to replace the damaged sign so that a beautiful new sign now represents our community again.
Thank you to all involved in making this important replacement happen so quickly including Town Manager Jim Cunha, Chief John LaCross, DPW Director Joe Piccerelli and staff, Rabbi Andy Klein and Temple Habonim staff and members, and the people who reported the damage. Our community clearly demonstrated that collaboration makes great things happen. And that we will not tolerate hate.
If you see a sign that has been vandalized, please call the Barrington police at 437-3935 to report the damage.
