Letter: Tiverton administrator deserves to keep his job

To the editor:

First I have to say thanks to the crew that puts the the town meetings on line. I'm able to watch them when I have time.

I have to tell you I was sad to see that the current Town Council will not renew Town Administrator Matthew Wojcik's contract.  They chose to look for a new administrator, which makes me wonder why?

I have known, and have had numerous discussions with every town administrator since our first, Paul Northup. History shows us what happens when the wrong person is in that job, We have paid huge settlements to ex-town employees in recent years because of bad moves by an administrator and some of his staff. Hundreds of thousands paid out of taxpayers’ pockets because of bad management when we lose in arbitration. We could have paved five miles of road with that money curb to curb.

The current town administrator has worked from day one to protect the taxpayers by changing the old play book with a whole new set of rules that comply with labor law. This protects us from expensive legal action. He has overseen disputes in every department, and seems to have the town back on a forward track.

I could go on with the improvements I've seen in town departments, but I'm limited by the editor.

In short we have a professional now who has a proven record. If your trash is picked up this week it was his budget work that paid the vendor. I hope this council sees the value we have in Matt.
