To the editor:
Oh, my! My Katz is at it again. In his letter in last week's paper about the Tiverton library budget, Mr. Katz tries to use comparative population statistics to rationalize deep cuts in the library's budget. Another budget committee member opines about closing the high school.
Prudent spending is exceedingly important. Of monumental importance is educating our kids, a joint venture in a way between public schools and community libraries.
Our new head of the federal Environmental Protection Agency says that carbon dioxide is not a major contributor to climate change. Our Coast Guard faces deep cuts to help finance a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Political leanings aside, such ideas are nuts.
As tomorrow's leaders, our kids deserve excellent learning opportunities so that, for example, they can see through statistical nonsense, become scientifically literate, and understand spending priorities both nationally and locally. Our town must support our schools and library.
