Here are some highlights from the Portsmouth Police reports from the past week.

Monday, May 16

Devon A. Gomes, 22, of 202 Riverside St., Apt. 1, was charged at 7:29 a.m. with domestic assault and domestic disorderly conduct. Police made the arrest after responding to the apartment for a report of people arguing. Police said a woman there had red marks on her arms but no scratches or early signs of bruising, and the apartment was in disarray. A patrol officer provided the victim with pamphlets on domestic violence, but once he left the woman immediately ripped them up and threw them to the ground, according to two other officers on the scene.

Tuesday, May 17

Jay A. Catalan, 53, of 63 Long Meadow Road, was charged at 6:14 p.m.with domestic assault. Police said Mr. Catalan chest-bumped a Portsmouth woman during an argument.

Thursday, May 19

Jay M. Oliveira, 38, of 36 Regina Ave., Somerset, was charged with larceny of under $1,500 at 11:53 a.m. Police pulled Mr. Oliveira’s vehicle over on West Main Road near Raytheon because he was not wearing a seatbelt. During a records check, police discovered a warrant for Mr. Oliveira’s arrest on the larceny charge. On March 25, Mr. Oliveira’s former employer, East Coast Construction, reported he had made unauthorized charges for gasoline on the company credit card account totaling nearly $700, according to police.

Joseph S. Pappas, 36, of 57 Seneca Road, was charged with violating a no-contact order at 1:32 p.m. Police said Mr. Pappas made numerous contacts with a woman who had an active no-contact order against him.

Mark A. Perry, 55, of 61 State St., Apt. B, New Bedford, was arrested at 3:37 p.m. on three separate bench warrants issued by 4th, 6th and 3rd district courts. Police stopped Mr. Perry for speeding at Dollar General on East Main Road.

Saturday, May 21

Dylan J. Mello, 20, of 177 Mill Lane, was arrested at 10:44 a.m. on a warrant for failure to report an address change as a registered sex offender. Police made the arrest shortly after conducting a compliance check at the Mill Lane residence, which Mr. Mello listed as his address when registering as a sex offender on March 3. However, later that day police said they found him at a residence on Donna Drive.

A 17-year-old Portsmouth boy was charged at 11:34 a.m. with larceny of under $1,500 and wayward disobedient. Police responded to a local home for a report of a runaway juvenile who had broken into his father’s safe. Although the safe contained four guns, some alcohol and prescription medication, nothing appeared to have been taken. The father said a jar containing about $20 in change had been taken from the same room, however. The boy left the house after his father confronted him, police said, and was later found entering a RIPTA bus headed to Newport. Police stopped the bus and arrested the boy, who was found to be carrying $23.55 in loose change.

Sunday, May 22

Shannon M. Dacunha, 31, of 2729 North Main St., Apt. 1, Fall River, was charged at 1:35 a.m. with driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police stopped her vehicle for leaving the lane of travel on West Main Road.

Monday, May 23

Police investigated a report of a bomb threat that was called into Hathaway School at about 9:45 a.m. Upon arrival, all students and staff members were out of the building. According to police, a female staff member received a call which sounded like a recording of a man with an Australian accent warning of an explosive device in the school. The woman said she then heard three clicks, which indicated it had been an automated message, according to police. Police searched the building but no suspicious items were found. The Rhode Island Fusion Center later said there had been multiple, similar calls made to other schools in Rhode Island and Massachusetts that day.

Tuesday, May 24

An employee at Verizon said four striking workers blocked the driveway of the building at 3199 East Main Road and prevented him from leaving shortly before 9:30 a.m. The complainant said when he first pulled into the lot, there were no people striking in front of the building. When police arrived, the four striking workers were seen in the driveway, still blocking the vehicle, and were advised to clear the path. The striking workers told police they were instructed by their union officials to block the driveway until the police arrived. Police then informed them they are not to block traffic at any time and after a short period of disagreement, they agreed, according to police. A union official later told police he would get word to striking members on how to conduct themselves.
