SAKONNET AREA — The holiday spirit and assorted festivities — such as the Tree Spree in the Wilbur & McMahon School gymnasium, tree lightings in both towns, carol singing, and the arrival of Santa — will be evident in Tiverton and Little Compton this weekend.
Tiverton — Saturday, Dec. 3
From 4 p.m., holiday-related events geared for youngsters will take place in the Fort Barton School gymnasium where hot chocolate will be provided. A crafts station will be set up to make tree ornaments, and a table set aside for writing letters to santa. The location is just downhill from the holiday tree at Town Hall. Santa is scheduled to arrive on a fire truck sometime between 4:35 and 5 p.m. The tree lighting ceremony at Town Hall will take place about 5 p.m. The Tiverton High School band will join carolers at the tree when the tree is lit.
Little Compton — Sunday Dec. 4
The 23rd annual Ben Wilkie Memorial Tree Spree will be held in the Wilbur School Gym on the Little Compton Commons on Sunday, Dec. 4, from 1 to 7 p.m.
Dozens of theme-decorated Christmas trees and other items (including a 25-inch handmade commemorative bear) will be available to win at the Tree Spree.
In addition, a craft and small business show will be in the school commons area adjacent to the gym. Food will be available for purchase, and Santa and his elf will arrive at 6 p.m.
At 5 p.m., the town’s annual Christmas tree lighting and caroling (six carols are planned) will be held on Pike’s Peak on the Commons. All proceeds benefit local scholarships.
