A Child Street man started 2017 behind bars after he allegedly fired a handgun during a domestic incident with his wife early on New Year’s morning.

Police were called to the 618 Child St. home of Peter L. Jannitto, 48, at 1:36 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, after receiving a 911 hangup call.

“We get them all the time,” Warren Police Lt. Roy Borges said. “A lot of time it’s kids playing but we always check them out.”

When they arrived, Mr. Jannitto was in the front yard. Lt. Borges said “it seemed like he knew what he’d done.”

When they went inside, police learned that Mr. Jannitto had allegedly shot a bedroom wall during a fight with his wife; no one was injured, police said. They recovered the handgun inside.

Mr. Jannitto was charged with felony domestic assault with a dangerous weapon, use of a firearm while committing a crime of violence, and domestic disorderly conduct.
