Monday, Jan. 2
Someone stole a trailer from a Child Street residence.
Police were called to a Metacom Avenue address after a resident said two people were trying to break in. Police found no evidence of a break.
A highly intoxicated male walked in to the police station to report a past assault. Police noted that besides being drunk, he could not ID a suspect and told them that he wanted his cell phone. Police released the man to the custody of his mother.
Tuesday, Jan. 3
Devon A. Gomes, 23, of Portsmouth, was arrested on a Second Division District Court bench warrant.
A man reported damage to a duck blind on his Market Street property.
Police got a call about a turkey on Vernon Street that might be injured. Animal Control Officer Thomas Gordon located a group of turkeys near the cemetery, and “all seemed in fine condition.”
Police checked on dogs on Davis Street that, according to a caller, had been left out in the cold all day. Police arrived and the dogs were brought in; a few minutes later a caller told officers that the owner “threw” the dogs out as soon as the police left.
Wednesday, Jan. 4
A man loitering in front of a business on Turner Street was asked to leave but refused. Police came down, though he had left. They tracked him down and had a chat with him.
Police got a call about a coyote loose on Main Street.
A Water Street man told police that his sister abandoned her daughter, leaving her with him.
Thursday, Jan. 5
A Main Street woman told police that two men were looking through her window; she chased them off, she said.
Friday, Jan. 6
A caller from Wood Street reported hearing the sound of breaking glass and loud voices. The call came in at about 2:41 a.m.
A caller from Bradford Street told police about a coyote (or possibly an injured dog) walking along the bike path toward Bristol.
Joshua Strother, 23, of Newport, was picked up on a warrant for breaking and entering with felonious intent.
A Market Street resident reported telephone harassment.
A caller from Harris Ave reported a man in a hooded coat, possibly drinking a beer.
A woman from Union Street complained that her ex-boyfriend keeps coming by, even though he is not welcome. Police advised her on the procedure for taking out a restraining order.
Saturday, Jan. 7
Men were reported loitering in front of a Child Street parking lot. Turns out they were looking for a cell phone that was lost in the snow.
Sunday, Jan. 8
A caller complained that a plow driver was pushing snow into the road.
The employee of a Metacom Avenue restaurant complained that an irate customer refused to leave.
A Warren Avenue resident complained that a neighbor was shoveling snow into the street. Police came and had a talk with the shoveler.
Police were asked to check on the well-being of a highly intoxicated woman on Metacom Avenue.
An Arlington Avenue resident reported harassment via Facebook.
