When you sync your mobile device today, there will be an update to Instagram. Nothing crazy about that. Every day one of the million apps on your device has an update but this one will forever change our beloved Instagram.
No longer are our amazing photos crammed into the square. They have been freed.
Instagram stated in a post "Today, we’re excited to announce that — in addition to square posts — you can now share photos and videos in both portrait and landscape orientation on Instagram. Square format has been and always will be part of who we are. That said, the visual story you’re trying to tell should always come first, and we want to make it simple and fun for you to share moments just the way you want to."
This is a huge change to the very fiber of Instagram. Since its conception, the square has been the tool to keep the millions of photos share consistent giving the app a "clean and elegant" design. Now those grand vistas or intimate portraits can now be viewed and shared the way they were intended. Grandma won't get cut out of those group shots anymore.
Instagram went on to say "We’re especially excited about what this update means for video on Instagram, which in widescreen can be more cinematic than ever. While we’ve historically had separate filters for photos and for videos, all filters will now work on all types of moments. You can also adjust the intensity of filters on videos, too."
This is another huge improvement to the Instagram app. Being allowed to use all the filters and set the amount of each filter on videos gives the creator even more control on how the final piece will look and feel.
It's a beautiful day. Get out there and start share amazing experiences.
