Mrs. Alice (Brown) Borges, age 93, of Hope Street, Bristol, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018, in the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. She was the wife of the late David D. Borges, her husband of 45 years, who died in December of 2000.

Born in Bristol, R.I., Feb. 4, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Frank F. and Georgianna P. (Machado) Brown. Alice was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School in Bristol.

At the age of five, she started watching her dad repairing cars and, starting with her holding the extension light for him and gradually handing him his tools, until in later years she actually repaired cars herself and was quite a good mechanic.

She worked as a forelady for the former Collins and Aikman Company and then worked for the Converse Rubber Company, formerly in Bristol, and for Miner Industries as supervisor of the Stitching and Packing Departments, until retiring in 1987.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Brown, Jr., and a sister, Lillian Micheletti.

Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, are Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at 10 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol.
