A house in Tiverton’s Fogland area near the Sakonnet River has won a merit award from the Rhode Island Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
Fogland House and architect Peter Twombly of Estes/Twombly Architects were honored at the group’s 2015 Design Awards ceremony.
The judges, from the Institute’s Minnesota Chapter wrote:
“The jury thought that this house was successful because of its strong plan with visual connections between the interior spaces and exterior places, its exterior form and physical context. It honors both the inland and shore side of its site while creating an exterior sheltered space protected from the wind with no concessions to its waterfront views.
“It embodies nicely proportioned interior spaces which are integrated with its site orientation for both livability and sustainability.”
It was also recognized for environmentally friendly ‘green’ features including double insulation in the roof and walls, triple-glazed windows and low-maintenance, durable exterior materials.
