Asterio  Horacio “Terry” Sousa, 73, of North Lane, passed away on Feb. 6, 2017 at home. 

Born in Bristol, on the corner of State and Thames Street, he was a true “Native Bristolian.” Asterio was the son of the late Antone and Joaquina (Medeiros) Sousa.

He is survived by his loving companion, Pam Marsden; sisters Bertha Brum and her husband Edwardo, and Deotilde Silva and her husband Jose; as well as three nieces and one nephew. He was the brother of the late Bertha Sousa, who passed away as an infant.

Mr. Sousa was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School and received a Bachelor’s degree from Bryant College. He then went on to receive a Master’s degree from Baldwin Wallace University.

He was the CEO and sole shareholder of Superior Holding Corporation, headquartered in Cleveland Ohio. Subsidiary companies included: Superior International Corporation, which at one time was the  largest privately owned supplier to the nation’s 22,000 funeral homes; “ALL Crematory Corporation,” one of the largest manufacturers and marketers of crematory chambers with installations in 35 countries including China and the Soviet Union; Supesa Trading LTD, an international importing and trading firm; Primary Computer Company, the first firm to offer multi-user and tasking systems to the cemetery and funeral industries;  Design and Décor, primarily dedicated to architecture, design and decorating of funeral homes as well as retail establishments, condominium models and executive homes. 

Terry was an internationally published author as well as a respected public speaker at various conventions and conferences. When he retired in 1996 at the age of 53, he sold his corporations to a New York Stock Exchange-listed firm and the balance of his holdings to a privately held conglomerate.

Of all of his achievements, to his parents for the sacrifices they made giving him the opportunities, he was the most proud to say “Thank You.”
