Volunteers have designed a new course and new fun obstacles for this year's Tough Tiger Adventure Race.
The family-fun activity, which will be held on Sunday, May 1, serves as a fund-raiser for Hampden Meadows School. The first heat goes off at 12:30 p.m. In previous years, hundreds of people have participated in the event, raising thousands for the school.
This year's Tough Tiger will offer participants a shorter run, but more obstacles. The race starts on Kent Street near the front of the school and quickly features a "rock carry" and tire run as it travels east to Old Chimney Road. Runners will turn down Old Chimney and follow the course to a cut-through to the Sowams School property.
Once runners reach Sowams they will participate in a tire flip. Also at Sowams there is a sled push, hay bale hurdles, triceps extensions, a standing long jump, a hay mountain to scale, noodle hurdles, a zig zag balance beam and climbing walls.
Runners will then head on the Hampden Meadows Greenbelt path, traveling south. A twine maze is planned for the woods near the Kent Street tennis courts.
Runners will travel into the woods behind Hampden Meadows School where they will face slack lines and a tarp tunnel.
Once runners emerge from the woods they will face five more obstacles — a rope wall, basketball, a Star Wars maze, jump rope, and the fan-favorite mud pit.
Online registration has already opened and early bird rates continue through April 27 — $15 for kids 5 through 12, $20 for people 13 and older, and $50 for families. Registration fees increase by $5 on race-day.
