Jack Marley pitches one-hitter for Majors 10U team

The Barrington Little League Majors 10U All-Star team overpowered Middletown 11-1 in the District II finals on Sunday night, July 15.

Barrington's Jack Marley limited Middletown batters to just one hit and struck out seven. He also benefited from some stellar defense late in the game by outfielders Kellan Johnson and Connor Helm. Both players tracked down fly-balls in Middletown's final at-bat; the game was called after four innings because Barrington held a 10-run lead.

Jack Marley also helped his own cause at the plate — with two runners on base, Marley smashed a line-drive that rolled all the way to the fence at Chianese Field. The hit easily scored two runs, and Marley reached the plate on a Middletown throwing error.

"Everybody's contributing," said Barrington manager Scott Carroll. "Everybody's involved. There's really no weak spot."

Brock Carroll and Santino Guiffrida shared catching duties for Barrington. Guiffrida also drove in three runs.

The victory propels Barrington into the state finals. The local team, which will represent District II, will play against the District IV tournament winner on Sunday, July 22.

Earlier games

Barrington opened the District II tournament with a 14-2 win over Middletown on July 9 and defeated Portsmouth 7-1 on July 11 to reach the finals.
