Jamie Michalak and Anika Denise sharing Sept. 16 event

It's an all-Barrington party.

On Saturday, Sept. 16, Barrington Books will host a special launch party/book signing for Barrington children's book authors Jamie Michalak and Anika Denise.

Ms. Michalak is celebrating the release of her latest book, "Joe and Sparky, Party Animals," while Ms. Denise is marking the release of her latest, "Starring Carmen!" The book launch/party will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Barrington Books in the Barrington Shopping Center.

"Jamie and I are great friends and in the same writing group—so when we realized we both had new books releasing at the same time, we thought, why not combine celebrations?" said Ms. Denise.

Ms. Michalak's newest book is the latest in her "Joe and Sparky" line. Joe is an exuberant giraffe and Sparky is his slightly more serious friend. The book shares the fun story of when Joe decides to throw a party for his pet worm: "There’s just one problem: Sparky is not entirely sure if Wiggy even exists! What will happen when every animal in the zoo shows up to Wiggy’s party with presents and cake?"

"When Anika asked if I would like to throw a book launch party together I immediately loved the idea. Our stories both feature high-energy, joyful characters who love to celebrate, well, anything. Why not celebrate them together in our favorite bookstore?" said Ms. Michalak.

Ms. Denise's book, "Starring Carmen!" features the young actress, singer, dancer and all-around "sensación," Carmen. "She exhausts her parents with her nightly performances and completely overshadows Eduardo, her adoring little brother. But when Eduardo shows his big sister how much he loves her in a way even Carmen can’t ignore, will Carmen realize that the stage is big enough for two?"

Ms. Denise said combining the two titles in one launch party seemed like a natural fit.

"I have no doubt Carmen would jump right into Joe and Sparky’s world and join them on the conga line. (Though she’d probably insist on leading it.) We may even conga through the bookstore at the launch party. You never know," said Ms. Denise.
