A 15-year-old Barrington boy is facing four counts of
cyberstalking after he allegedly sent Instagram messages to four girls asking for them nude photos.
Last week a Barrington High School vice principal contacted the school resource officer after four female students complained that they were receiving messages from another student who was requesting nude images of the girls. The female students said the messages had been sent through
Instagram on Oct. 31, and one of the girls also said someone had created a fake Instagram profile of her.
The school resource officer investigated the claims and officers later spoke with the male student who allegedly sent the messages. On Wednesday, Nov. 4, police charged the 15-year-old Barrington boy with four counts of cyberstalking. He may also face a
cyber-harassment charge for setting up the fake Instagram account.
The arrest comes just days after law enforcement and school officials held a presentation at Barrington High School focused on cyber-bulling. The presentation detailed the laws surrounding cyber crimes and also shared key information on how parents can keep an eye on their children's online behaviors.
