The Barrington High School boys basketball team knocked off Narragansett 71-64 in overtime and will play against Woonsocket in a State Championship Tournament quarterfinal game on Sunday, March 10.
Narragansett entered the open tournament as the number four seed, having finished atop the standings in Division II in the regular season and reaching the finals of the D-II tournament. But 13th-seeded Barrington appeared undaunted by the task of facing the Mariners. In fact, the Eagles handed the Mariners one of their two league losses in the regular season.
On Thursday night, Barrington held a two-point advantage at halftime 28-26, and outscored Narragansett 12-5 in the overtime period.
Barrington guard Ryan Bonneau led all scorers with 21 points, including 7-of-9 shooting from the free throw line. Bonneau's teammate Will Rywolt knocked down three 3-pointers and finished with 17 points, and Brendan Conaty added 11 points. In total, eight Eagles finished in the scoring column, including Ben Silvia and Ben Proulx with seven points each.
The Mariners had four players finish in double-figures, led by Jordan Riendeau's 20 points.
