The Barrington High School boys' swim team finished second at the state championship meet on Saturday.
The Eagles started the state meet with a victory in the 200 yard medley relay, breaking a 30-year old state record in the process. (The previous record was held by another Barrington High School team also coached by Sandy Gorham in 1986.)
The record-breaking relay consisted of senior captain Jack Fortin, sophomores Harry Homans and Aidan Lane and freshman Ethan O’Connor. This quartet also won, and shattered the state record in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
In addition to the two relay victories, Homans captured the state title in the 500 yard freestyle and a podium finish in the 200 yard individual medley.
Other successful podium finishes were contributed by Fortin in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke, sophomore Ben Vesey in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle, sophomore Ben Noonan in the 100 yard breaststroke, Lane in the 200 yard individual medley and 100 yard butterfly and O’Connor in the 100 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke.
The 400 yard freestyle relay team consisting of Noonan, freshman Sam Chavez, and sophomore Ian Smith and Vesey also had a podium finish, taking sixth place.
Other Eagle swimmers contributing to the overall second place finish were Matt Bloom, Tim Hecker, William Kaon, Nick Peecher, Smith and Alston Stone.
