Barrington computer team finishes eighth at nationals

Posted

The team of Matthew Lamontagne, Vivian Tian and Sahil Mishra recently led Barrington High School to an eighth place finish at this year's American Computer Science League ALL Star Competition held in Orlando, Fla.

Barrington earned 30 out of a possible 40 points in the computer programming portion of the contest, solving three problems completely, and chalked up 25 out of 36 points in the short answer round.

Barrington's total of 55 points landed the local students behind seven other schools, including first place Phillips Academy from Andover, Mass., which scored 72 points.

"We were hoping to finish in top 5 but came up a little short," wrote Barrington High School computer science advisor Mario Correia.

Barrington reached the nationals by scoring very well during the regular season — the local high school students finished third nationally in the Senior Division 3-person team category, and first for the Northern region.
