Eagles defeat Clippers, tie Quakers

The Barrington High School field hockey team overpowered Cumberland 7-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

The Eagles scored four first half goals and struck three more times in the second half.

Madelyn Cox scored two goals, while Claudia Kriz, Elizabeth Lewis, Alexy Carolan, Mila Diaz and Heidi Grove also tallied goals. Lewis finished with two assists and Carolan and Perry LaBelle also assisted on goals.

The lopsided win served as a tune-up for the Eagles when they faced off against Moses Brown on Friday. The Eagles and Quakers battled to a 3-3 tie.

Moses Brown scored three first half goals, as the Quakers' Kari Buonanno found the back of the Eagles' goal three times. But the Eagles bounced back with a strong second half — Lewis scored Barrington's first and second goals of the game and Diaz tied the game with just six minutes remaining.

Cox tallied two assists and Piper Broomhead assisted on another. Caleigh Durkin finished with a game-high 13 saves in net for the Eagles.

Barrington's record moved to 9-1-1 after the win and the tie last week. The Eagles will host Lincoln on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.
