Barrington's Santina Jacques performed very well at two recent figure skating events.

On Feb. 10, Santina, a 13-year-old eighth-grader at Barrington Middle School, competed at the Bay State Winter Games Figure Skating competition held at the Lansing Chapman Skating Rink at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. Ms. Jacques competed in both US Figure Skating and International Skating Institute events and placed first in each event, qualifying to compete at the State Games of America in Lynchburg, Va. in 2019.

The Bay State Winter Games have been held for 34 years and feature athletes competing in figure skating, alpine skiing, ice hockey, bowling, cross country skiing and snow shoe racing. Athletes represent Massachusetts, New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Rhode Island.

Notable Bay State Games alumni include Karen Cashman, 1994 U.S. Olympic Speed Skating Team member, and Nancy Kerrigan, 1992 and 1994 U.S. Olympic Figure Skating medalist.

Ms. Jacques is a member of the Pawtucket and Providence Figure Skating Club, which was founded in 1938 and is one of the oldest figure skating clubs in the country.

Ms. Jacques has been skating since 2010 and has been coached by Ashley Knight, a former Boston Bruins Ice Girl and an accomplished USFS, ISI and ice theater coach.

In addition to competing in individual events, for the last four years Ms. Jacques has also been a member of the Ocean State Ice Theatre team. Coached by Sarah DiNardo and Kristen Souza, the team trains at the New England Sports Village in Attleboro, Mass. and has competed nationally and internationally throughout the United States. They are currently preparing for the upcoming competition season which culminates at the 2018 National Theatre on Ice competition to be held in June at the Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Ill.
