Barrington girls advance to State Tournament semifinals

Eagles will play at URI on Saturday afternoon

The Barrington High School girls basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the State Open Tournament with a 62-41 win over Chariho on Monday night, March 11. 

Barrington’s Isys Dunphy led all scorers with 20 points. The junior also ripped down 12 rebounds, blocked three shots and had four steals. 

Janaya Prince Baquero scored 13 points, including her 1,000th career point. 

Maddie Gill scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Liv Morrissette added 12 points.

The Eagles, winners of the Division I tournament, will tip off against Bay View in the semifinals. That game is scheduled for noon at the Ryan Center on the campus of URI. 

Bay View earned a trip to the semis with a 44-43 win over Ponaganset in the quarterfinals.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
