The Barrington High School girls lacrosse team will play in the Division I state championship game.

The third-seeded Eagles knocked off the second-seeded Wheeler Warriors 12-11 in a semifinals showdown on Thursday, May 31, in Johnston.

Barrington will face top-seeded Moses Brown in the finals. The championship game had been scheduled for Sunday, but that presented a conflict for Barrington High School, which will hold its graduation ceremony at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Rhode Island Interscholastic League officials have rescheduled the championship game to Saturday, at Cranston Stadium, at 5:30 p.m.

In the semifinal win, Barrington's offense was led by Clare Gaffney and Tess Gagliano. Gaffney scored four goals and had three assists, while Gagliano had four goals and 1 assist. Aly Vetromile had a goal and two assists, and Elizabeth Lewis played a key role in winning a number of draws. Lewis also had a goal and an assist.

Piper Broomhead, Perry LaBelle, Hope Vetromile and Meg Mahonney were solid on defense for the Eagles, and goalie Caileigh Durkin was stellar in net, stopping 16 Wheeler shots.
