The Barrington High School girls lacrosse team fell behind 7-2 in the first half of the Division I state championship game against Moses Brown, but battled back to eventually tie the score 7-7 before losing to the Quakers 18-11.
Barrington entered the playoffs as the number three seed and faced a tough, top-seeded Moses Brown team.
"Moses Brown has a stellar girls' lacrosse program — coached well and led by some of the best players in the nation," said Barrington High School coach Olivia Ougheltree. "We came out strong against them, played competitively, and for that, I cannot be more proud of my girls."
Hope Robertson led Barrington's offensive attack. The senior scored five goals, while Clare Gaffney and Tess Gagliano each finished with two goals and two assists. Ann Berkery and Hope Vetromile each scored single goals. Megan Mahoney and Elizabeth Lewis also played well for Barrington.
"In my first year as the head coach at Barrington, I couldn't have asked for a better group of girls. Led by a determined and energetic senior class, this team bought into a new coach, a restructured program, and big expectations. During the last few weeks of the season, it was evident just how hungry this team was. They played with heart, they played with composure, but most importantly, they played as a team," said Ougheltree.
The first-year Eagles coach said the future is bright for Barrington girls lacrosse, and also wanted to praise the contributions of this year's seniors: "Special thanks to our senior class - Aly Vetromile, Annie Berkery, Clare Gaffney, Hope Robertson, Megan Mahoney, and Parker Kirkwood."
