Grace Coutu scored 21 points for the Barrington High School girls' basketball team during the Eagles' Division I semifinals showdown with South Kingstown on Thursday night, Feb. 25. But the double-digit production would not be enough as the Eagles fell to the Rebels, 55-39.

Playing the second game of a double-header at Rhode Island College, Barrington fell behind 26-14 in the first half and trailed by as many as 21 points early in the second half. But the Eagles would not quit, and battled back to close the gap.

Despite the valiant effort, Barrington's hopes of repeating as Division I champs would be turned aside. South Kingstown will play against LaSalle Academy in the finals.

Coutu was the only Barrington player to score double-digits in the semifinals. Andrea Kubas-Meyer finished the game with six points, while Gloria Ellison had five, Olivia Middleton scored three and Libby Hutchings added two.

Celia Tomlinson scored 19 points to lead South Kingstown.

The Girls' Basketball Open State Tournament begins on March 2.
