Barrington girls win class title; boys finish second

The Barrington High School boys and girls track teams performed well at their respective class championships. 

The girls win class championship, while the boys finished second at their meet.

Annika Kelly won two events for the Eagles — the senior finished first in the weight throw and the shot put. Caroline Livingston also scored key points for Barrington, winning the 1,500-meter race and finishing second in the 1,000-meter race.

The team of Reilly Curran, Meg Zitzmann, Kaleigh Morgan and Sarah Hennessey celebrated a come-from-behind victory in the 4x800-meter race. 

Barrington scored points in 13 out of the 14 events to win the Medium Class Championship. 

Other scorers: 

• 4x200-meter relay team of Elizabeth Grover, Meghan Spaight, Julia Howarth and Jordynn Palethorpe finished third

• Fiona Ainsworth finished sixth in the 3,000

• Stephanie Chun finished second in the 1,500

• Elizabeth Grover finished fifth and Claire Grover was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles

• Tess Gagliano was second and Julia Howarth was third in the 600

• Jordynn Palethorpe finished third in the 300

• Meg Zitzmann finished fifth in the 1,000

• Claire Grover finished third in the high jump and third in the long jump

• Sydney Polando finished second in the weight throw

• 4x400-meter relay team of Gagliano, Howarth, Hennessey and Palethorpe finished second

Boys finish second

Barrington's 4x800-meter relay team of Jamie Gunness, Calvin Hennessey, Jay Scheiffelin and Brendan Fay finished in first place at the Class B Championship meet on Saturday, helping the Eagles to a second place team finish. The relay team's time of 8:31.38 also set a new meet record.

Walter Joachim-Delpoio clocked a season's best time in the 55-meter hurdles to win that event, and ran a leg of the Eagles 4x400-meter relay team, which finished second. Other members of that relay team were Hennessey, Gunness and Fay.

Barrington's 4x200-meter relay team of Ben Geoghegan, Aaron Brady, Andrew Blazewicz and Joachim-Delpoio finished second. 

Other scorers:

• Jackson Duffy finished sixth in the 55-meter hurdles

• Gunness finished fourth and Hennessey finished sixth in the 600

• Will Cauley finished fourth in the weight throw and fifth in the shot put

• Fay finished fourth in the 1,500
