Barrington gymnasts compete in regionals

Local girls represent RI on gold and platinum teams

On Saturday, May 19, three athletes from Barrington competed in Shrewsbury, Mass. at the USA Gymnastics Regionals, representing the state of Rhode Island on the Gold Team competition.

The girls, Justine Jamrog, Maria Gunness and Audrey Keefe, met in preschool at Kid's Quarters in Barrington. Justine and Maria are members of the team from Renaissance Gymnastics Academy in East Providence and Audrey trains with East Bay Gymnastics in Bristol.

The girls competed with athletes from Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut and New York.

Another athlete from Barrington, Adeline Quas, also competed during the Regionals, in a meet on Sunday, May 20 representing Rhode Island on the Platinum team. Adeline trains at East Bay Gymnastics.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
