Barrington gymnasts lose to Patriots, Islanders

The Barrington High School gymnastics team battled Portsmouth and Middletown in a regular season meet on Saturday, Jan. 26. The Eagles scored 120.95 points and finished third behind Portsmouth's 127.15 and Middletown's 123.60.

Emma Conway and Callie Frazier competed in the all-around. Conway scored a 29.65, while Frazier tallied a 28.2. 

Jess Liang had Barrington's top score in the vault, with an 8.45, and on the bars with a 7.6. 

Hannah Melker led the Eagles on the beam with a 7.65, and Frazier was tops with her floor routine, scoring an 8.4.

Vault — Jess Liang 8.45, Emma Conway 8.25, Callie Frazier 8.3, Audrey Keefe 7.95.

Bars — Jess Liang 7.6, Hannah Melker 7.0, Emma Conway 6.8, Brenna Hadad 6.05.

Beam — Hannah Melker 7.65, Hannah Zanghi 7.3, Callie Frazier 7.1, Emma Conway 6.7.

Floor — Callie Frazier 8.4, Jackie O'Hayre 7.95, Emma Conway 7.9, Hannah Melker 7.55.

All-around — Emma Conway 29.65, Callie Frazier 28.2.

Earlier meet

The Barrington High School gymnastics team celebrated a double-win earlier this month. The Eagles scored 124.8, while Chariho was second with 123.0 points and Warwick was third at 120.1 points.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
