Posted

The Barrington High School baseball team defeated Burrillville 7-2 on Saturday afternoon and improved to 6-1 in the division. Barrington is currently tied for second place in the Division II standings.

Nick Peecher got the start for the Eagles and pitched four solid innings, giving up no runs and striking out five to earn the win. Andrew Conaty came in for the fifth inning to shut down a Broncos' rally and preserve the 3-2 lead. Conaty struck out four and earned the save.

Pitching and defense were strong all day, including a diving catch in left by Liam McManus early in the game for Barrington. But it was the offense that led the way with 11 hits. Barrington exploded for all seven of its runs starting in the fourth inning. A 2-out, 2-run single by Conaty with bases loaded started the scoring against the Burrillville ace. Then a hit by McManus scored two more for a 5-2 lead in the fifth. Matt Macaluso lined a single to drive in two to push the lead to 7-2 in the bottom of the sixth, and that all but finished the day for Burrillville.

Cabot Maher led the Eagles with three hits, including a double, while George Connelly had two hits and an RBI. Josh Leadem had two hits, McManus had a hit and three rbi, Macaluso had a hit and two rbi, Conaty a hit and two rbi, and Mike Pfeffer had a double.

BHS vs. Smithfield

Barrington traveled to Smithfield to take on the 4-2 Sentinels and won a hard-fought game by the score of 5-3.

Matt Zeleznik got the start and pitched 4 full innings, giving up three hits and three earned runs to earn his first varsity win for the Eagles. Cabot Maher came in for relief work and pitched a dominant final three innings recording nine strikeouts and earning his second save of the year.

Barrington pitchers only gave up four hits all day, and the Eagles played error-free defense to secure the win.

The offense was led by Henry Johnson with two doubles, Josh Leadem with a 2-out single for two rbi's and two steals, Mike Pfeffer with a single, sacrifice and rbi, Andrew Conaty with a single, rbi and steal, Liam McManus with an rbi, and Matt Macaluso with a single. The Eagles had several hard-hit balls for loud outs as well.

BHS vs. St. Raphael

Barrington hosted St. Raphael Academy earlier, mounted a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning and cruised to a 9-0 victory.

Conaty got the start for the Eagles and improved his record to 3-0, pitching six innings of scoreless baseball, giving up three hits and striking out seven. Peecher pitched a clean seventh inning to close out the game with a 1-2-3 inning.

Conaty held the Saints in check all game with an efficient outing and excellent defense behind him and behind the plate as well.

An aggressive offense and baserunning was led by Macaluso with two, 2-strike hits and two rbi, Josh Leadem with two hits, Cabot Maher with an rbi, and Mike Pfeffer with a hit and an rbi. Matt Zeleznik, Marra and Leadem each scored two runs for the home team.
