Barrington High School was the top-ranked high school in the state and number 200 out of more than 14,000 schools nationwide analyzed for the recent Newsweek Magazine High School Rankings.
Newsweek worked with a research firm to build the rankings, which are based "on a metric of student achievement and college preparedness data provided by the National Center for Education Statistics" and from a survey of schools.
Barrington High School was the only Rhode Island high school to crack the top 200; East Greenwich was ranked 283. The Maine School of Science and Mathematics was the top-ranked high school from New England at number 11. Lexington High School in Massachusetts was number 19.
Newsweek, which released the rankings on Sept. 8, gave Barrington High School a college readiness score of 86.92.
Barrington Superintendent of Schools Mike Messore shared the information with other local school officials earlier this week.
Barrington also earned a top state rank in US News and World Report's top high schools list.
