The Barrington Pop Warner Junior Pee Wees rolled to their second straight victory on Saturday, defeating Dighton-Rehoboth, 37-6. The Eagles' record improved to 2-1 with the win.
Barrington's defense opened the game with a key fumble recovery deep in DR territory. Finn White grabbed the loose ball after a host of Eagles converged on the DR ballcarrier. A few plays later, Barrington's AJ DiOrio rammed into the end zone from one yard out, capping a drive in which he ran for big gains.
The Eagles' defense held strong on DR's second drive and forced a punt. A few plays later, Barrington's Chucky Potter took a pitch and scampered 30 yards untouched to the end zone. Quarterback Mitchell Ivatts called his own number of the point-after-try and darted into the end zone, giving the Eagles a 13-0 lead.
Dighton-Rehoboth's offense struggled to gain any forward progress against the Barrington defense, and on fourth down the Falcons lined up to punt. Barrington's Kurt Donecker had other plans, however, and ran in to block the punt. Donecker also scooped up the loose ball, but was tackled after a short run.
Just a few minutes later, Ivatts ran into the end zone and Barrington led 19-0.
Barrington's defense again stone-walled the Falcons on the next drive. In fact, the Eagles's defense did not allow a single first down in the first half. With time running out, Barrington took over possession. DiOrio, playing quarterback, dropped back to pass and lofted a long spiral to Ivatts, who hauled in the ball over a defender and ran the rest of the way to the end zone. The pass measured 45 yards and gave Barrington a 25-0 advantage at halftime.
The second half started with the Eagles on offense. Facing a fourth and short, DiOrio ran a quarterback sneak and found wide open running room. The hard-charging Eagle sprinted 55 yards for Barrington's fifth touchdown of the day. Charly Potter blasted into the end zone for the extra point and gave Barrington a 31-0 lead.
The Eagles defense was just as tough in the second half as it was in the first. Ivatts, Charly Potter, Alex Zillian, Kevin Robinson, Finn White, Owen Willard, Shea Parish, Jackson Warner and Nate Reid each made stops for Barrington.
The Falcons eventually broke off a long touchdown run, but Barrington answered a few minutes later, as DiOrio followed crushing blocks by Nate Gravelle, Lyam Renaud, Aimon Bickford, Robinson, Ryan Rigamonti, Willard, Donecker and Charly Potter for a 50-yard score.
Barrington will travel to Fairhaven for a game on Sunday.
