The Barrington Little League Majors All-Star team will play for the District II title on Sunday night, July 19, after the local boys defeated Portsmouth 7-5 on Saturday night.

Barrington exploded for six runs on five hits in the second inning and built a 7-2 lead going into the fifth inning. Portsmouth capitalized on a home run in the fifth and put the tying runs on first and second before Barrington shut the door on them.

Barrington, which lost a tough 3-2 game to Portsmouth last week, dropped into the loser's bracket and knocked off Darlington 5-3 to earn a second chance at the title. The District II finals will be played Sunday night at Sherwood Field in Barrington at 5:45 p.m.

Barrington Manager Robert Zeleznik said Nolan Fletcher pitched a great game for Barrington — Nolan struck out five batters and gave up just one earned run in 4 and 1/3 innings. Nolan helped his own cause by going 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and a run scored.

Brendan Conaty also had a big day for Barrington, cracking a home run for a key insurance run in the fourth inning. Brendan also walked twice and closed out the game on the mound, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings.

Nick Ptaszek blasted a line drive to right for Barrington's first hit of the game and later walked and scored a run — he finished 1-for-2 on the day. Sam Faulkner roped a key 2-run single in the second inning, while Josh Leadem, Ben Proulx and Thomas Huard each had hits and scored runs.
