Posted

A Barrington resident contacted police after he discovered a strange item in his yard on Monday, Feb. 29.

The man told police he found a small metal capsule stuck into a tree branch. Inside the metal capsule was a glass container, which appeared to contain a white powdery substance.

The man told police he was unable to open the container, and handed it over to police. It was unclear whether police were able to open the container and check its contents.

Suspicious email

An official at the Barrington Town Hall received a suspicious email at about 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 29.

The town official told police the email appeared to come from a member of the town council, but when that person was questioned, she said she never sent the email.

It was later discovered that the councilor's email account had been hacked and the email had been sent from someone in Nigeria.
