Website checks dept. of health violations at RI supermarkets for the last three years

Posted

A local website recently released its list of Rhode Island supermarkets with the most health code violations — the list includes one store in Barrington and another just over the border.

Shaw's Barrington — located in the Barrington Shopping Center — was number two on the list of 25 stores, while the Shaw's on Willett Avenue in Riverside was number 24.

GoLocalProv reportedly checked inspection reports from the last three years, from April 2013 to April 2016, and found that Shaw's Barrington had 55 total violations, including 31 major violations.

According to the website, the violations included deli meat that failed to include a date of preparation and bagel and cake samples that were not protected from contamination from the public.

The Shaw's in Riverside reportedly had 23 total violations, including six major violations. A health inspector reportedly cited the store for not properly following cooling procedures for rotisserie turkeys.

Other nearby stores to make the list included Seabra in Bristol (number 15 with 29 total and 14 major violations) and the Shaw's in East Providence (number 19 with 25 total and 11 major violations).
