Arts Alive! and Barrington Middle School will present "High School Musical, Jr." this weekend.

More than 150 students have been working on the performance, which will feature catchy dance music and "teens facing the challenges of young love, friendships, and family while balancing school and extracurricular activities."

Pete Bilderback, the president of the Arts Alive! board of directors, said the show provides an important reminder to people of all ages.

"Beneath its cotton-candy-exterior, 'High School Musical, Jr.' tackles many real-life issues faced by middle school students," said Mr. Bilderback. "Middle school is a time when youth start asking the big questions, 'Who am I?' and 'Where do I belong?' The show provides a reminder that is as timely to adults as to children – whoever we are, we are all in this together."

There will be four performances: On Friday, March 15 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 16 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 17 at 1 p.m.

All performances take place at Barrington High School. Tickets may be purchased online at www.artsalivebarrington.org or at the door and cost $8 for adults, $5 for children. The staff includes professional actors, costumers, and educators.

Fund-raisers

There will be a fund-raiser for Arts Alive! at Bluewater Bar and Grill on March 18, 20, and 21 — 10 percent of proceeds will be donated to Arts Alive!

The annual Arts Alive! Broadway Your Way raffle is also underway. For $10 per ticket, people can enter to win a weekend getaway complete with two nights of hotel accommodations, a $100 Visa gift card, and winner’s choice of tickets to The Lion King, Wicked, or Anastasia in New York. Tickets are available at all Arts Alive! performances or from staff and board members. The winner will be drawn at the final show of the Arts Alive! season June 2.
