Barrington Middle School wrestlers end season on high note

The Barrington Middle School wrestling team had six wrestlers qualify for the state tournament and finished 13th out of the 30 teams competing.

The solid finish offered a silver lining to a tough regular season which saw the Eagles finish 4-8.

"The Eastern Division was the toughest division in the state this year and we had to give up 5 or 6 forfeits every match, because our team was young and small," wrote assistant coach Scott Leonard in a recent email. "Finishing in 13th place might not seem like a big deal, but to us coaches, it was a great accomplishment with only 6 wrestlers entered into the tournament. We beat over a dozen schools that had twice as many wrestlers as we did."

Wrestling team captain Zachary Leonard was the lone Barrington Middle School wrestler to be a finalist at the tournament. Zachary lost a tough finals match, 8-4, and brought home a silver medal in the 148-pound division.

Captain Preston Quintanilha lost a tough semifinals match, but bounced back to capture third place in the 159-pound division. Ben King was the team's third wrestler to place at the state tournament. Ben finished fourth in the 96-pound division.
