This year's Barrington Middle School wrestling team is off to an impressive start.
Barrington closed out the first part of the season with a recent win over Chariho and heads into the winter break training for the main part of the season.
After going 9-1 in Division II last year, this year's middle school wrestling team has moved up to Division I. This year's team has more than 25 wrestlers.
Led by captains Aidan Pine, Parker Hughes, Devin Mederios, and Ryan Valentine, the Eagles boast an impressive mix of veterans grapplers and talented newcomers.
Returning veterans include Kevin Robinson and Xander Williams, while rookie wrestlers include Hunter Hughes and Jack Treanor.
Filling out the middle weights through heavy weights will be old and new faces including Jackson Cortese, Joey Grillo, Lucas Bianco, Michael Kilpatrick, Will Hopkins and Tommy Marvelli.
“Wrestling is unlike any other sport," said Coach Farina, "if a wrestler feels he or she is ready to challenge for a varsity position, then they can challenge for it. They will wrestle-off for the spot, winner takes the spot, that is it. The best wrestler wins, it has always set wrestling apart from all other sports.”
The Barrington Middle School wrestling team is still accepting applicants for the team and there are no tryouts or cuts — if you can commit to the practice schedule and commit to the team you can be part of Barrington Middle School wrestling.
