Jacob Studley named 'Rookie of the Year'

Barrington native and Wheaton College freshman baseball player Jacob Studley was recently named 2019 Rookie of the Year in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.

Studley, a graduate of Moses Brown School, led the conference in batting average (.432) and in on-base percentage (.529). The Barrington native was also second in the conference in slugging percentage (.663), 13th in home runs (4), and 16th in doubles. 

Studley, who played in 28 of Wheaton's 35 regular season games, was ranked 18th nationally in walks and on-base percentage, and helped his team to a 27-8 overall record. The Lyons went 15-2 in the conference and won the NEWMAC regular season baseball title. 

A right-handed outfielder, Studley scored 31 runs for the Wheaton baseball team, drove in 19 runs, and also stole three bases.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986.
