Barrington native and Colby-Sawyer College sophomore Denali Sexton was named National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III Men's Soccer
National Player of the Week recently.
Sexton, who helped lead the 2012 Barrington High School boys' soccer team to a state championship, scored 16 points for the Colby-Sawyer team last week.
He scored two goals and added an assist in the Chargers' 4-0 win over Lyndon, and then set his school's single-game scoring record with 11 points in an 11-1 win over Johnston State. Denali scored four goals and assisted on three others and rose to fourth place on Colby-Sawyer's all-time points list with 64.
"He now has 12 assists this season which is tied for lead the in the NCAA and is the most in a season at Colby-Sawyer," stated a
press release from his college.
Sexton, who was also named
Eastern College Athletic Conference New England Offensive Player of the Week and North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Player of the Week, has paced the Chargers to a 6-0 record so far this season.
During his freshman season,
Sexton led the team with 12 goals and was tied for the team lead in points with 30. He was named NAC Rookie of the Year and earned a spot on the All-NAC First Team.
"Sexton also became the first Charger to be named ECAC Co-Rookie of the Year," stated the Chargers' website. "He was a two-time NAC Player of the Week and three-time NAC Rookie of the Week recipient. He also garnered ECAC Co-Rookie of the Week and ECAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades. Sexton finished the seasonĀ 59th in the nation in total points and 62nd in goals."
Denali is a business administration major at Colby-Sawyer College.
