Barrington Pee Wees blast Middletown, remain undefeated

The Barrington Pop Warner football teams traveled to Middletown on Sunday and came back with a split, as the Pee Wees and Junior Midgets won their games and the Junior Pee Wees and Mighty Mites came up short.

Pee Wees

The Bagels Etc Pee Wee football team improved to 5-0 after a 27-0 victory at Middletown.

The Eagles defense pitched their fourth shutout in five games behind the stellar play of William Loew, Thomas Mcadams, David Raposa and Andrew Jameison.

Jax Gorman threw a strike to Willy Sanchez for a 65-yard touchdown (Gorman throw to Ethan Tomulonis for the conversion) to make the score 7-0 in the first quarter.

The defense held strong with tackles from Jack Kelty, James Anderson, Matt Daft and Bennett Durkin. After a few solid runs from Briggs Dunphy and Bryan Ivatts, Scotty Gausland took an off-tackle power with blocks from Jay Scheifflin and Asher Kranowitz to dart in from 20 yards out to make the score 13-0.

The Eagles moved the ball just before half behind Conner Nelson and Luke McManaman just to be stopped at the inch line just before halftime as time ran out.

Conner Rowley, Mike Uriati, George Alexandre and Drake Van Ness led the charge to shut down the Islanders on the first series of the second half. On his second carry on the drive Gausland put in his second touchdown in from 15 yards out (Sanchez kick) to make it 21-0.

The Eagles offense wore down the defense again on a drive capped off with Sanchez scoring up the middle from 10 yards out to end the scoring in the third quarter.

Junior Midgets

Barrington Pop Warner Junior Midgets team sponsored by Dick’s Sporting Goods played the Middletown Islanders on Sunday and came back with a 24-0 win.

The day got off to good start with the recovery of the first kickoff of the day on the Middletown 8 yard line. Unfortunately the blue offense was not able to capitalize on the fumble recovery. Our defense stepped up and didn’t let the Islanders any ball movement during the first half. They forced punts on all of the first half possessions. Our gold offense of Chase White, Jack Murphy, Zach Cunha, Nick Ptaszek, Harry Masse, Thomas Rocha, Willem and Wolfgang Chojnicki, Aiden Keenan, Collin Phillips and Jack Kelleher was able to run the ball down to Middletown’s 4 yard line but again was unable to get in the end zone. The first half ended with a 0-0 tie game.

In the second half the offense took the opening possession down the field with hard running of Jack Murphy, Luke Gorham, Mark Bernardo, Cam Oliveira behind the line of Chase White, Justin Teles, Zach Cunha, Harry Masse, Evan Van Bree, AJ Prete, Collin Phillips and scored on a long run by Mark Bernardo and a 2 point conversion by Chase White.

After the kickoff, the defense of Robbi Sheahan, Spencer Thys, Sergio DaSilva, Cameron Flores, Justin Teles, Patrick Cauley, Aiden Keenan, Shaun Rodrigues, Zach Cunha, Jack Murphy, Mark Bernardo, Thomas Rocha, Luke Gorham, Nick Ptaszek and Declan Cooke never let the Middletown Islanders any ball movement. Again they caused the Islanders to punt on their second half possessions.

Mark Bernardo scored his second touchdown and Cam Oliveira scored another touchdown with Chase White connecting on two more 2-point conversion to bring the score to 24-0. At this point Middletown started throwing the ball to try and work their way back into the game. Nick Ptaszek had an interception in the fourth quarter and Thomas Rocha had another on our own 6 yard line with 26 seconds left to allow the offense to take a knee to run out the clock.

Junior Pee Wees

The Pearson Travel Junior Pee Wee Eagles traveled to Middletown on Sunday afternoon to take on the 4-1 Islanders.

The Eagle offense was held in check most of the game by a stout Middletown defense. A bright spot was when the Eagles were able to drive the ball down into the red zone early in the first half on strong runs behind blocks from Ian McTaggart, Owen Lawson, and Nolan Gaus. With the score 7-0 the Eagles were threatening to tie up the contest. The drive came to a halt after an Islander defender made a nice defensive play picking off a roll out pass on the 7 yard line. The score at the half was 14-0 Islanders.

The Eagles defense forced the Islanders to turn over the ball on downs multiple times during the game. Strong play from Aidan Pine, Adam Camille, Ryan Anderson, and Tyler Viera contributed to the defensive stands. In the end the Islanders were able to overpower the Eagle lineup en route to a 28-0 final.

The Eagles will look for their first win of the season this Saturday when they take on the East Bay Warriors at 1:30 p.m. at Barrington High School.

Mighty Mites

Barrington faced its second Middletown foe in as many weeks, losing 24-0 against the Islanders' White team.

The Eagles fell behind 16-0 in the first half, but refused to quit. Barrington opened the second half with an impressive offensive drive, as Mitch Ivatts and Brett White followed the strong blocking of Jake Ignall, Ryan Martin, Luciano Cicione, Hunter Hughes, Nate Reid, Kurt Donecker, Shea Parish, Madison Rodrigues, Aimon Bickford, Luke Deschenes, and Jack Josephson. The drive came up just short as the Islanders intercepted a pass at the goal line.

But Barrington battled back and recovered a Middletown fumble on the next drive. The Eagles defense worked tremendously hard all game. AJ DiOrio, Owen Willard, Quinn Murphy, Shea Parish, Brett White, Kurt Donecker, Kevin Robinson, Ryan Martin, Jake Ignall, Caleb Hopkins and Nate Reid worked hard to stop the vaunted Islanders' running game. Jacob and Johnny Raposa and Blake Dolan also played well for Barrington early in the game.

Barrington will host the East Bay Warriors on Saturday at noon.
