Vehicle spotted traveling south in northbound lane of Wampanoag Trail

Posted

A Barrington police officer was driving on the Wampanoag Trail at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 11, when he spotted a car traveling south in the northbound lane.

The officer quickly responded — he also tried to warn another vehicle of the situation; an accident was narrowly avoided.

The policeman was able to block the suspect's vehicle with his cruiser as it tried to turn around on the Trail. The officer then spoke with the driver, later identified as Lakeville, Mass. resident Renee M. Gugliotta.

Police said the 31-year-old woman appeared to be intoxicated and failed a series of field sobriety tests. She refused to take a breathalyzer test. Police charged Ms. Gugliotta with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol-first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test.
